Representative Cedrick Frazier Marches with Freedom Schools Program

Wednesday, July 19, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, Representative Cedrick Frazier (DFL- New Hope) marched with scholars, families, and community members from the Freedom Schools Program for their National Day of Social Action. At Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools sites, scholars are learning how gun violence impacts their ability to be children and youth and decided “thoughts and prayers” are not enough. Freedom School educators, families, and community leaders organized a march and rally to demand justice and develop strategies to prevent gun violence in their schools.

Representative Frazier released the following statement:

“What I witnessed today was the future of our democracy. I was honored to march alongside these impeccable children and youth, who united under one cause: gun violence prevention. These young leaders are paving the way for sustainable and long-lasting change. While we passed significant gun violence prevention laws like red flag laws and universal background checks, the youth and community demand more action to ensure students can focus on their studies and not survival.

“I am proud of the teachers, organizers, and community members who led by example and demonstrated to their students the power of organizing, demanding accountability, and the importance of representation at the Capitol. I am confident that these young leaders will continue to make a difference in the world. They are the future of our democracy, and I am grateful to be a part of their movement.”
