Representative Sandra Feist Announces the North STAR Act
SAINT PAUL, MINN. -- Today, Representative Sandra Feist (DFL-New Brighton) and Senator Omar Fateh (DFL-Minneapolis) held a press conference to announce the introduction of the North STAR Act, legislation to prohibit Minnesota state and local government entities from sharing data or collaborating with federal civil immigration enforcement. Rep. Feist and Sen. Fateh were joined by supporters of the bill and members of the North STAR Alliance, a coalition of advocacy groups working to protect Minnesotans from a threatened federal crackdown on non-citizen residents.
“The North STAR Act is about our values as Minnesotans,” said Rep. Feist. "It’s a highly technical bill designed to create clarity and to ensure that we invest state and local dollars toward the betterment of Minnesotans, rather than wasting them enforcing our broken federal immigration laws. This bill is common sense and it is urgent in order to ensure that our resources are not coopted by the federal government to enforce laws in a way that is harmful to immigrant communities.”
