Legislative Update from Representative Brian Pfarr

Friday, March 4, 2022

Friends,

Let me begin by saying, my thoughts and prayers are with the strong people of Ukraine. I cannot begin to fathom watching your home become a war zone. Please join me in praying for these people and for the world’s leaders as we all navigate this crisis.

This week in the legislature, I worked on legislation to provide infrastructure for the City of Belle Plaine. I often feel like the Twin Cities get all the glory, or funds, to make their communities better, and I am proud to write legislation to help Belle Plaine. This legislation would give almost $4.5 million to the city and would help design, construct, furnish or replace lights, sidewalks, sewers and more.

On Wednesday, I participated in a virtual town hall with my friends Senator Draheim and Representative Akland. We had a great discussion, and I hope we answered some of your important questions. You can watch the town hall on my Facebook page.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund is still a big topic in the legislature this week. I support my Republican colleagues who called for the House Democrats to let us hear this legislation on the floor and pass this bill. A deadline is approaching- March 15. This is a bill that passed in the Senate in a 55-7 vote and a bill that the Governor supports.  I am hopeful that the House Democrats will do the right thing and not cause our businesses to suffer more than they have.
