Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Pfarr

Friday, February 18, 2022

Friends,

Another week in the legislature has flown by. This week, our priorities have remained largely the same. The Unemployment Insurance bill is still sitting in committee for review. I am committed to protecting the small businesses in the district, by fully funding the UI deficit! Without this our businesses will face 6 years of increases.

This week I voted against a 4% increase on Mortgage Registration Tax, and an additional excise tax for homeowners. These proposals were discussed in the housing committee and are part of the HF 2880 DFL Affordable Housing Plan. While there were many good ideas in the bill, the idea of raising taxes on home ownership in a bill to help create affordable housing, makes no sense to me.

I want Minnesota to be a safe place. A place where a family can go out to eat or to a movie and not have to worry if they will become a victim of a crime. I am backing a bill that would make carjacking a crime.

New district lines were drawn this week. I want you to rest assured that district lines don’t determine what I represent. I remain committed to lowering our costs of living, managing the spiking crime in our communities, and giving control back to the parents in our schools. I am disappointed that New Prague was split through the middle. This is not the best thing for our community.

As always, I am a phone call or email away. Reach out if you ever need anything.
