Rep. Jordan Rasmusson statement re: Gov's budget proposal

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Jordan Rasmusson, R-Fergus Falls, released the following statement Tuesday in response to the budget proposal Gov. Tim Walz issued for the upcoming biennium, including a $1.7 billion tax increase that would give Minnesota the nation’s second-highest business-tax rates and third-highest income-tax rates:

“The governor’s budget plan focuses too much on tax increases on businesses and individuals in our state and falls short in identifying areas where savings may be achieved,” Rasmusson said. “Minnesota already has some of the nation’s highest tax rates and adding to the tax burden, especially at this time of economic uncertainty, will hinder efforts to restore our economy to pre-pandemic levels. Minnesotans and businesses have made great sacrifices during the past year and our state government needs to do its part.”
