RELEASE: Igo Calls for Significant Tax Relief With Record-Setting Surplus

Monday, February 28, 2022

On Monday Minnesota Management and Budget released the February budget forecast, showing a projected $9.25 billion surplus — up from the $7.75 billion surplus in the December forecast. State Representative Spencer Igo, R-Grand Rapids, issued the following statement regarding the report.

“Today’s news makes clear that Minnesota government has over collected from the hardworking taxpayers of our great state,” said Rep. Igo. “While so many in our Northland are struggling with inflation and soaring energy prices, it is simply unacceptable that government is sitting on more than $9 billion in surplus.

Now more than ever, we need to provide long-lasting tax relief—like eliminating the tax on social security—to Minnesotans and provide the hand up that so many need by making sure folks keep more of their hard-earned money. While times may be uncertain right now, I truly believe our best days are ahead. Together, we will bring our best days to reality.”
