RELEASE: Rep. Igo: Xcel Energy Rate Hikes Latest Example of Failed Democrat Policies

Wednesday, October 27, 2021

St. Paul, MN—Rep. Spencer Igo, R-Grand Rapids, issued the following statement responding to news that Xcel Energy is set to propose an increase to its electricity rate by about 20% over the next three years—costing ratepayers more than $670 million.

“Minnesota families are already feeling the impact of failed economic policies from President Biden and Democrats through skyrocketing inflation, supply chain issues, and massive increases in the cost of groceries, gas, and more,” said Igo. “Now, they may be forced to pay significantly more to heat and cool their homes due to Democrats’ impractical energy mandates.

“Renewable and intermittent energy should be a part of the equation but must not constitute the entirety of our energy portfolio. Democrats have grown accustomed to forcing these mandates on energy providers—thinking they are saving the planet—when, in reality, they are destroying our energy grid, the economy, and hurting families and businesses. Instead of championing policies that directly hurt ratepayers, our energy policies should focus on a diverse, 'all of the above', portfolio that provides affordable, reliable energy for Minnesotans.”
