Capitol Newsletter from Rep. Spencer Igo

Friday, May 21, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

The 2021 legislatives session officially ended Monday afternoon—finishing what’s likely the least productive in recent memory with zero budget bills sent to Governor Walz during regular session.

Because of this, we will need to be called back to St. Paul sometime in June for a special session to finish our work.

Despite reports that a budget agreement had been reached, there is still a lot of work to do and it’s time to set aside our differences and work hard to finish the jobs we were sent to St. Paul to accomplish. The citizens of the Northland sent me to St. Paul to be a leader for them and I am committed to working with members from both sides of the aisle to lift all Minnesotans and restore faith in the legislative process.

It is our job now to give the hardworking people of Minnesota the budget and legislation you and your family deserve so that we all can return to fulfilling, joy-filled lives—working to bring our best days to reality.

I am pushing for more transparency as negotiations proceed because we cannot have just three individuals—Governor Walz, Speaker Hortman, and Leader Gazelka—making decisions behind closed doors. This sort of negotiating is tired, broken, and has resulted in not finishing the people’s work on time.

Let’s come together and get the job done.
