Legislative Update - November 23, 2020

Monday, November 23, 2020

Dear neighbors,

I’d like to thank you all for entrusting me with another two-year term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. It’s a great honor to serve our community, and while there will certainly be challenges ahead, I look forward to continuing our work together.

New Public Health Guidelines

COVID-19 is spreading rapidly across the country, including here in Minnesota. Hospitals across the state are at or near capacity, and many are experiencing a shortage of health care workers. Our health care system and workers are being pushed to their limits as they struggle to provide care for an increasing number of Minnesotans with COVID-19 and people with other health needs.

Beds

Governor Walz has introduced new public health guidelines to help slow the spread of the virus. Under these guidelines, bars and restaurants are only offering takeout and delivery, gyms and entertainment venues are closed, and there is a pause on youth sports. Minnesotans are being asked to stay home when possible and avoid gathering with people outside of their household for the next few weeks.

Pausing for COVID

I know this will be difficult, especially with the holidays approaching, but we must get this virus under control. We all need to take these precautions seriously and do what we can to protect our communities. For everyone’s sake, please stay home if you can, wear a mask, and social distance in addition to following the new public health guidelines.

COVID-19 Testing Options

As cases continue to skyrocket, public health experts are encouraging Minnesotans to get tested for COVID-19. There are several options for people who want to get tested, including free saliva tests that can be delivered to your home. Community testing sites throughout the state are free and open to everyone, whether or not you have symptoms or insurance. Here in St. Paul, free testing is available every day at Roy Wilkins Auditorium. You can find more information about all of the options here.

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance. You reach me at rep.kaohly.her@house.mn or 651-296-8799.

Sincerely,

Rep. Kaohly Her
