Rep. Hodan Hassan Statement on Attack on Transgender Woman at Minneapolis Light Rail Station
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Rep. Hodan Hassan (DFL -- Minneapolis) released the following statement after a transgender woman was violently attacked at a Minneapolis light rail station Monday morning, leaving her in critical condition.
“This was a senseless act of violence, fueled by hate towards the Trans community. When we say we are fighting for Trans Rights, it’s not just about how our neighbors are treated in the eyes of the law, but also out in the world. This devastating attack is yet another tragic display of the discrimination and hate in our society towards the Trans community, and trans women experience this violence at a disproportionate rate. I pray for our neighbor who suffered this attack to find the strength to heal, both physically and emotionally. I firmly stand with her in solidarity, as does my community, and I look forward to seeing the attackers brought to justice for this disgusting hate crime.”
