Legislative Update - October 21, 2021

Thursday, October 21, 2021

Dear neighbors,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the beginning of fall!

The legislative session adjourned a few months ago, but our work at the Capitol continues. DFLers from the House and Senate recently launched a new caucus to defend and expand access to reproductive health care. I’m proud to be a member of the new Reproductive Freedom Caucus and committed to protecting Minnesotans’ reproductive rights.

Reproductive Caucus

I’ve kept busy with events in our community, and I’ve enjoyed the many conversations I’ve had with folks in-person, over the phone, and on Zoom throughout the summer. Please continue reaching out!

Minnesota Values Project Survey

My colleagues and I are seeking input from Minnesotans as we prepare for the next legislative session. We want to hear about what’s going well for you and your family, your hopes for the future, and any roadblocks you’ve experienced. This will help us advocate for you at the Capitol.

If you’re willing to share your thoughts, please take this short Minnesota Values Project survey. It only has four questions, and any input you provide will help guide House DFLers next year and beyond. Thank you for your participation!

Energy Assistance Available

As it starts getting colder here in Minnesota, I want to remind you about a few programs that can help folks stay warm during the fall and winter months. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP), for example, helps Minnesotans pay for heat, water, and furnace repairs. The Minnesota Department of Commerce recently expanded the program, making more than 600,000 households eligible for assistance.

Minnesotans who qualify for energy assistance may be eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program too. It offers free energy upgrades to help people save money and ensure their home is a safe and healthy place to live.

The Cold Weather Rule helps ensure all Minnesotans have heat during the coldest months of the year. While it’s in effect, electric and natural gas companies can’t disconnect service if a customer who can’t pay their bills in full sets up a payment plan with the utility. The rule took effect earlier this month and will remain in force until April 30.

Please feel free to share questions, ideas, and feedback. You can reach me by email at rep.jamie.long@house.mn or call (651) 296-5375.

Sincerely,

Jamie Long
