Release: Rep. Huot Votes to Extend COVID-19 Workers’ Comp Benefits for Frontline Responders

Thursday, March 25, 2021

St. Paul, MN - Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed House File 1203, which would extend the workers’ compensation benefits to public safety and health care workers who have been sickened by or exposed to COVID-19, with the presumption that they contracted the virus in the line of duty. This builds upon the legislation passed into law last April. The bill passed on a vote of 102-28.

Representative John Huot (DFL-Rosemount), a co-author of the bill, voted in support of the measure and released the following statement:

“Health care and public safety workers continue to respond to the needs of Minnesotans to keep us safe. It’s not enough to simply say ‘thank you’. Our actions speak louder than words. Our first responders; nurses, doctors, paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, correctional officers, and child care workers all deserve economic security to provide for themselves and their families throughout the pandemic. I am proud to support these frontline workers with a ‘yes’ vote.”
