Dear Neighbors,

The Minnesota House passed several budget bills off the floor this week, including Environment & Climate, Veterans, State Government and Elections, Transportation, Housing, Agriculture, and Education. As I write, we’re currently discussing the Children and Families budget, which will provide important investments in affordable and accessible child care and early learning, shelter and dignity to those experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, economic supports for families, and more. We’re working hard to make meaningful progress in a way that will keep our Apple Valley community and ISD 196 School District moving forward.

I’ll do a brief overview of our work on a Zoom community coffee hour this Saturday, April 22 at 9:00 a.m. Please RSVP with my Legislative Assistant Isabel, at Isabel.anderson@house.mn.gov to receive the Zoom credentials to join.

Save the Date- MN Zoo’s Treetop Trail is Opening July 28!

The Minnesota Zoo’s 1.25-mile Treetop Trail, the world’s longest elevated pedestrian loop, is opening on July 28. It will bring guests of all ages and abilities up to 32 feet above the ground and provide them with immersive and accessible views of the Zoo and the animals.

Private events and programming are expected to follow throughout the weekend of the Grand Opening, and be sure to check back in with the Zoo’s website here periodically for more information as July 28 approaches.

This has been a project in the works for many years and it’s rewarding to see it through to fruition. I’m glad I was a part of its journey by co-authoring legislation to help deliver state investments for construction toward this exciting new feature and creative way to utilize the old monorail track.

National Prescription Drug Takeback Day-April 22

Saturday, April 22 is the 2023 National Prescription Drug Takeback Day. If you’re optimistic about spring and have started your spring cleaning, now is a good time to go through old or expired prescription drugs and dispose of them safely. You can search for a drop off location near you here.
