Legislative Update- July 25, 2019

I hope summer has been treating you well. Since the Legislature adjourned at the end of May, I’ve been sitting in on Prescription Drug Task Force meetings, a group that was created by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison in April, which is charged with gathering expertise and input in order to understand why the prices of prescription drugs are so high and continue to rise. The purpose of the task force is to come up with strategies to lower prices. I’ll continue to monitor their progress. If you have ideas to share regarding possible solutions to end prescription price gouging, please give me a call at 651-296-5506 or send me an email.

‘Hands-Free’ Law to Take Effect August 1

Beginning next Thursday, Minnesota drivers will be required to use their mobile devices in ‘hands-free’ mode while they are behind the wheel. The new law may mean some changes, including connecting to a Bluetooth device, using a dash clip, turning on “do not disturb” mode while driving, or the safest step: simply keeping your phone in your pocket and ignoring it. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has launched an educational outreach campaign and has put together a comprehensive guide with tips and frequently asked questions about going ‘hands-free’.

District 57 Town Hall Meeting- July 29

On Monday, July 29, Senator Clausen, Representative Huot, and I will be hosting a town hall meeting from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley. It’s a great opportunity to make your voice heard with neighbors in a community-based forum and get to know the District 57 team. I hope to see you there!

Save the Date- Community Coffee Hour August 10

I hope you’ll be able to join me for my next Community Coffee Hour on Saturday, August 10 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. We’ll meet at the Dunn Bros on Galaxie Drive in Apple Valley. It’s a fun, informal get-together to share ideas, input, and constructive feedback in how we can keep moving our community and state forward.
