Legislative Update- March 15, 2019

Friday, March 15, 2019
Dear Neighbors,

First and foremost, my heart goes out to the victims and families in New Zealand in the wake of a devastating mass shooting. There is no place for hate in our country, or in the world. I will do everything I can to ensure this kind of xenophobic rhetoric and behavior is not tolerated in Minnesota.

The pace continues to move quickly as we’ve reached our half way point of the legislative session. Here’s an update from St. Paul:

'Hands-Free' Bill

The bill to ban handheld devices while driving has cleared all necessary committees and is headed to the House Floor for a full vote! As a co-sponsor of the bill, I’m looking forward to voting ‘green’ on this lifesaving measure.

Disability Services Day at the Capitol

This Tuesday was Disability Services Day at the Capitol which provided an opportunity to meet constituents with disabilities, their families, and support providers. Low wages and low reimbursement rates are the biggest challenges facing this important part of our population. Providers are having an extremely difficult time attracting and retaining employees. Investing in state funding would make a difference to address these challenges and improve the lives of Minnesotans throughout our state. I am committed to keeping the promises we’ve made to these individuals, and improving the services and resources on which they rely.

Minnesota Values Podcast

The House Majority has launched a new Minnesota Values Podcast to discuss how initiatives and proposed legislation are putting Minnesotans' values into action.

This week, co-hosts Rep. Jamie Long of Minneapolis and Rep. Liz Olson of Duluth discussed the Great Star For All Minnesota Children Act -- the very first of the House Majority’s top 10 priority bills. It makes new investments in early learning, child care, prenatal care, and home visiting. Click here to learn more about the proposal.
Great meeting with District 196 School Board!

Thank you

Our next gathering will take place same time, same location on March 23. Here are the details:

  • Saturday, March 23 at 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Dunn Brothers Coffee in Apple Valley, 15265 Galaxie Ave, Apple Valley, MN 55124
