Legislative Update- February 14, 2019

Thursday, February 14, 2019
Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who attended the community coffee hour last weekend! We had a great turnout, and it was great to listen and learn from each unique perspective. I value your insight, and I want to continue to hear from you.

If you were unable to make it, please continue to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns. Otherwise, feel free to swing by at our next coffee hour on February 23 at 9:00 a.m. Thank you to the Dunn Bros on Galaxie for the space and a great cup of coffee!

With that said, this week has seen many advancements of bills that I’ve chief-sponsored and co-authored, so I have a few updates for you.

I was also grateful to have had the opportunity to meet with Governor Walz and our U.S. Representative Angie Craig this week.

Solar Tax Credit Legislation

I’ve introduced legislation that would help Minnesotans install clean, renewable energy sources to their homes and businesses through means of a temporary tax credit. This would be applicable for solar panel installation, water heaters and energy storage units. I dropped the bill into the “hopper” this week and am excited to have it move forward.

Protecting At-Risk Youth

All Minnesotans deserve to be respected and accepted for who they are. “Conversion therapy” on members of the LGBTQ community is deplorable and frankly, inhumane. Numerous professional medical organizations have noted that conversion therapy lacks scientific credibility, clinical utility, and is harmful. Unfortunately, many Minnesotans are still subjected to these harmful practices, which put them at risk for serious harms such as depression, substance abuse, and suicide. It’s time to end this dangerous practice and treat all Minnesotans with the respect they deserve. This is why I am supporting H.F. 12 which would put an end to the practice. The first hearing for the bill was held this week, and WCCO covered it here.

Please continue to stay in touch with your viewpoints, feedback or any questions. I love hearing from you and welcome your input anytime. You can reach me at 651-296-5506 or by email at rep.robert.bierman@house.mn.

Sincerely,

Robert Bierman
