Alice Mann Successfully Advocates for Lakeville Metro Mobility

ST. PAUL, MN – The House and Senate have adopted Rep. Alice Mann's legislation to bring Metro Mobility to Lakeville. Metro Mobility will expand an affordable door-to-door public transportation service for riders who are unable to use regular fixed-route buses due to disability or a health condition. This is the first bill Rep. Mann chief-authored this session.

This bill will give the elderly and people with disabilities the life-changing ability to live independently. As a physician, I've seen first-hand the challenges people face going to see their doctor, getting to the grocery store, and engaging in civic life,” said Rep. Alice Mann. “I want to thank Senator Little for his strong advocacy and hard work in getting this done.”

Metro Mobility operates 360 days a year and provided nearly 2.5 million rides in 2019, about a third of which were for people who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The service area includes Minneapolis, St. Paul, and nearly 90 adjoining suburbs. Eligible riders may apply here.

The bill, which appropriates nearly $2 million from the General Fund to expand Metro Mobility services to Lakeville, was adopted in the omnibus transportation bill, which the House and Senate will vote on in an upcoming special session. Language of the two bills is available here and here.
