Local Schools to See Funding Increase Under House DFL Education Budget

The House E-12 education budget would increase funding by approximately $701 per student in ISD 191, nearly $150 higher than the state average increase

St. Paul, Minn. – This week, The Minnesota House of Representatives passed the E-12 education budget that would increase the per-pupil funding formula by 3% in 2020 and by another 2% in 2021. The budget is inspired by parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators who have told legislators how budget cuts and growing class sizes have impacted the quality of instruction, support, and education in schools.

Families in our community should know that when their child goes into the classroom, they are going to get the best education our teachers and our state can provide," said Rep. Alice Mann (DFL - Lakeville). "All Minnesota students deserve a great education, no matter where they live."

ISD 191 announced a $7 million budget shortfall in February. The House E-12 Education Budget would increase funding by approximately $710 per student in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District, and by $536 in Lakeville-area schools.

A fact sheet about the E-12 education budget is available here.

The full E-12 education budget is available here.

After the Minnesota Senate approves their E-12 education budget, lawmakers from each chamber will form a conference committee to reach agreement on a final budget.
