House Passes Workers' Comp Bill

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

Today we gathered in our state's seat of government in St. Paul to pass critical legislation to ensure that healthcare workers, first responders, and home health aides are eligible for workers' compensation in the unfortunate event that they contract COVID-19 while serving Minnesotans during this public health crisis. In particular, the legislation provides a presumption that if these workers contract COVID-19, they did so during the course of their employment and are covered by workers’ compensation. The House Chamber was largely empty today, to abide by the social distancing guidelines. Many of us voted remotely, I voted from my car on the roof of the State Office Builiding’s parking garage.

Thank you to all our health care workers and first responders. I am honored to support this bill, and I am deeply grateful to our workers on the front lines who are risking their safety to save lives. We must always support those who take care of us, especially during an emergency like this that is unprecedented in modern times.
