Special Session Update - Health & Human Services Bill

Saturday, May 25, 2019
Hello, my friend!!

The Health and Human Services Bill is one of the most important of this session. Chair Liebling and her team has done incredible work!! The bill passed 77-51.

Starting at 3:20 am, we began discussing the HHS bill. This bill does a lot of good for Minnesota including:
  • Continues the Provider Tax (in taxes) generating revenue for the Health Care Access Fund for MinnesotaCare, Medical Assistance, and other health programs.
  • Maintains reinsurance for two years
  • Continues Child Care Assistance Program helping Shakopee families
  • Increases MFIP grants
  • Requires health care coverage for PANS and PANDAS (an acute neuro disease)
  • E-Cigarettes included under MN Clean Air Act
  • Changes in medical cannabis to expand distribution and access
  • Adds doula services for Medical Assistance

There are many, many great things in this bill to improve the lives of Shakopee and Minnesota residents. I'm really proud of this work!!

PS: The Senate unfortunately has left behind an insulin access bill that passed with heavy majorities in both the House and Senate. This is another tragedy for Alec Smith's family and we'll keep working to get it passed next year. Thank you to Rep Howard and Sen Little for their work.

PPS: We now move on to the Education Bill!! Only a couple bills left.
