Special Session - Legacy Finance Bill

Friday, May 24, 2019
Hello again, my friend!!

The second bill that is up today is the Legacy Finance Bill that passed 103 to 23.

In 2008, Minnesota's voters passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. This Constitutional Amendment dedicates funds to clean water, public lands, and the arts. It is awesome!!

This year, the bill dedicates $629 million in funds over the next two years for the outdoors and arts across our State.
  • Outdoor Heritage Fund - $127m
  • Clean Water Fund - $261m
  • Parks and Trails - $102m
  • Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund - $139m

We are currently in recess and not quite sure what is going to happen next. In orders to get through the bills in a Special Session, the Minority party has to agree to suspend the rules. That has not happened yet. If it doesn't, resident Leg historian Rep Mary Murphy (longest serving house member) says this hasn't happened since 1977.

I'll let you know what happens but hopefully we'll take up another bill soon!! If not, we'll be here for quite awhile.

Brad
