#MNLeg Special Session begins tomorrow at 10 am

Thursday, May 23, 2019

Hello!!

Governor Walz has called for a Special Session to begin tomorrow for the Legislature to pass our 2020-21 Minnesota Budget.

There are so many things I am proud of in this budget. Together, we accomplished many things for Shakopee like:

  • Increased Health Care access by saving the provider tax
  • More funding for Shakopee Public Schools and mental health training
  • Minnesota Valley Transit Authority’s 495 Route funding
  • Passing legislation allowing Canterbury Park to keep operating if there is a ever a government shutdown (We’ve been working on this since 2011 - thank you to Sen Eric Pratt for his great work in the Senate on this!!)
  • My bill to allow the Shakopee Prison and Law Enforcement to use body scanners to reduce infiltration of foreign objects.
  • Conformity with Federal Tax Code and reducing taxes through increasing the standard deduction, expanding the working family tax credit, increasing local government aid, school district referendum equalization, and more.
  • My hunting bill allowing use of trained dogs to track and recover lost/injured game.
  • Protects workers by making intentional wage theft a crime in Minnesota.
  • Supports Ag with assistance for dairy farmers, beginning farmers, and access to food.
  • Promotes clean water and the environment.

The Senate and the House have agreed to identical budget bills and we will begin discussing and passing them Friday (tomorrow) morning at 10 am.

If you have a specific issue or item you care about, please let me know. All of the budget bills are available with their summaries and funding spreadsheets at —> https://www.house.mn/bills/SS2019bill.asp

Thank you so much for this opportunity to serve you!!

Brad

PS: I’ll follow up with more info as we finish the budget.
