Our work on climate change

Thursday, December 12, 2019

Rep. Sandell

Neighbors,

We may not be in session, but it sure doesn't feel like things have slowed down. I've been working closely with the newly-formed House Climate Action Caucus on addressing climate change, an issue that is important not only to me but to future generations and our quality of life.

We're taking a serious, thorough look at all the policy intersections with climate, including housing, public health, and transportation. Our next meeting will focus on local impacts of climate change -- the meeting is public and you are of course welcome to join

Some of you have written or called to talk about the issues of climate change and environmental concern. The information and ideas have been helpful and influential. Your ideas make our work at the legislature better.

Even Minnesota’s largest utility, Xcel Energy, has recognized the urgency of addressing climate change, and is committing to be 100% carbon free by 2050.

Last week, Governor Walz launched an initiative that will complement the work we’re doing in the House. He created a Climate Change Subcabinet and Governor’s Advisory Council on Climate Change to build on existing climate initiatives, help state agencies collaborate, and guide the Walz-Flanagan Administration.

Warm wishes to you and yours over the holiday season, however you celebrate. Drop me a note any time you have questions or feedback. You can reach me at rep.steve.sandell@house.mn and at 651-296-1147.

Sincerely,

Rep. Steve Sandell
