Bill to increase workforce diversity receives public hearing in House Energy and Climate Committee
ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Rep. Ruth Richardson (DFL – Mendota Heights) presented legislation to the Energy and Climate Committee that would encourage all Minnesota utilities to increase the diversity of their workforce and suppliers (H.F. 2218).
“We all know that energy is important to the world, to our country, and our state. It is one of the key industries impacting economic development,” said Rep. Richardson. “Starting the conversation about encouraging a diverse workforce is about creating an equitable and healthy energy sector that benefits all communities in Minnesota.”
Under the bill, utilities would be required to submit a report providing information on the planning and efforts they made to increase diversity in the workplace, and their procurement goals and actual spending for female-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned and small business enterprises.
