RELEASE: Representative Boe, House Republicans Urge Biden to Consider Energy Independence

Wednesday, March 2, 2022

ST. PAUL, MN — Representative Greg Boe (R-Chanhassen) joined 16 other House Republicans in signing a letter to President Joe Biden, encouraging the President to commit to American energy independence, due to the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“Prices at the pump go up, up, up,” Boe said. “We need energy independence so that we can continue to go to work and live the life we work so hard for.”

Currently, AAA cites the national gas average at $3.66 a gallon. The letter to Biden encouraged America’s energy independence and requested the President open the Keystone XL pipeline. If opened, the pipeline would produce 830,000 barrels a day, which is more than the amount of oil we import from Russia.

Additionally, the letter request that the President reconsider the cancellation of mineral leases in Minnesota.

“President Biden assured Americans last night in his State of the Union Address that more products would be made in America. This includes computer chips. These chips cannot be made without the very minerals we have here in Minnesota. The fact is we can mine these resources much cleaner and safer than they can in other parts of the world” Boe said.

A copy of the letter can be found here.
