RELEASE: Boe named to Legacy conference committee

Tuesday, May 14, 2019

ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative Greg Boe (R-Chaska) has accepted an appointment to serve on a legislative conference committee for this year’s Legacy finance bill. The Legacy bill allocates sales-tax revenue generated by Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, which was added to Minnesota’s Constitution after voters passed it into law in the 2008 general election. The proceeds from this constitutionally dedicated sales tax revenue must be used for clean water, parks and trails, arts, and cultural heritage projects.

It’s an honor to be appointed to serve on the conference committee for this year’s Legacy bill,” said Boe, who also serves on the House Legacy Finance Committee. “This represents a great opportunity to push for a final package that funds important regional projects and prioritizes clean water, parks and trails, and Minnesota’s rich cultural heritage. I look forward to working with members of the House and Senate in order to produce a bill that maximizes the positive impact these constitutionally set aside dollars have on our state, while also working to assure sensible and responsible spending.

The Legacy Amendment raised the state sales tax by three-eighths of 1 percent and diverts that portion to support Minnesota’s outdoors, environmental and cultural causes. The tax generates around $900 million biennially.

During the conference committee process, legislators from the House and Senate work to reconcile the differences between the two versions of the bill that were passed in each legislative body. Once a conference committee comes to an agreement, the agreed upon legislation will then be brought before each body for another vote before going to the governor.
