Dear neighbors,
One of the best parts of serving as your representative is talking with young Minnesotans. This week, I had the opportunity to speak with many of them about the issues that they’re passionate about. It’s great to see our students participating in government!
At the Capitol
Allyson McCarthy, a DeLaSalle High School student from our district, got hands-on experience at the Capitol this week. She participated in the House High School Page Program, which gives Minnesota juniors the opportunity to learn more about how government works. More information on the program is available here. I encourage next year’s juniors to apply.
Dozens of young people came to St. Paul last week for the Youth Climate Justice Summit. I was honored to be part of a legislative panel discussion on climate change. These students will deal with the consequences of climate change for the rest of their lives. We must take action now for them and for future generations of Minnesotans.
I’ve introduced two bills that would help the University of Minnesota and State Colleges transition to clean energy sources (HF 1787 and HF 1788). This would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save the university money. It would also provide educational opportunities in renewable energy. Innovation happens every day in our colleges and universities, so it’s fitting that they lead the way for our state.

In the District
Many thanks to everyone who made it to the Senate District 44 Town Hall last weekend! Senator Paul Anderson, Representative Ginny Klevorn, Representative Lyndon Carlson, and I had a great discussion with community members on topics ranging from long-term care to ranked-choice voting to gun violence prevention.
Women's History Month
Everyone deserves equal rights under the law. The House recently passed legislation in favor of including the Equal Rights Amendment in our state constitution (HF 13). This would give Minnesotans the opportunity to vote for gender equality in 2020. I’m thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment during Women’s History Month and proud to be part of this incredibly strong group of women!
