Release: House State Government Finance Committee discusses Klevorn proposal to enhance long-term care support

Thursday, March 24, 2022

ST. PAUL – Today, the House State Government Finance and Policy Committee discussed a proposal authored by Rep. Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth) to establish a legislative task force to develop plans for the aging workforce.

“The demographic shift will have widespread impact on Minnesota’s economy, health care system, and social services,” said Rep. Klevorn. “Proactive action now can ensure that the transition is smoother and more cohesive. Enacting a legislative task force on aging is a win-win for our older Minnesotans and our economy.”

The task force would be charged with developing and guiding the restructuring of state and local policy; coordinate public/private endeavors, develop priorities for an aging demographic and measurable outcomes to address aging priorities, and ensure aging-related policies are inclusive.

Legislators received written testimony in support of legislation from the Minnesota Council on Disability, Minnesota Association of Area Agencies on Aging, as well as the Chair and other members of the Minnesota Board on Aging.

The bill is being considered for possible inclusion in a future package of legislation. Materials from the committee hearing can be found on the committee website
