First Week of Session!

Friday, January 6, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

The first week of session is in the books as we got back to work fulfilling our promises to improve Minnesota. Reproductive freedom, gun violence prevention, addressing climate change, affordable child care, and improved education, are just some of our priorities this session. You can watch House and Senate leadership discuss our shared priorities here.

DFL Priorities

One of my primary duties this year will be chairing the Public Safety Committee. Everyone deserves to be safe wherever they call home in our state. I will work to make strategic and thoughtful investments in consultation with leaders and impacted communities to create a better, more effective and more just criminal justice system.

It was exciting to chair my first Public Safety Committee meeting this week! I'm ready to work with my colleagues to create a Minnesota where everyone can feel safe no matter where they live.

We have already taken action on several important issues, here are a couple of the highlights:

  • The Taxes Committee passed a bipartisan bill for federal tax conformity which will reduce taxes on Minnesotans across the state while simplifying the filing process.
  • The Health Committee passed the Protect Reproductive Options Act (PRO Act) which will ensure every Minnesotan is free to make their own reproductive health care decisions.

This is just the beginning of what should be an eventful session. I’ll be sure to keep you informed of future developments!
