2022 Priorities

Thursday, January 6, 2022

Happy 2022!

I hope you and your families have had a joyous and safe holiday season. As we reflect on the year and prepare for the following, please keep in mind the Minnesotans who may be facing hardships this winter. Our communities work best when we all look out for each other. So please be there for your neighbors when you can.

2022

2022 Priorities

We are less than one month away from the 2022 Legislative Session. This year, I am focused on the issues facing working families in Minnesota. One of the longstanding issues preventing folks from fully joining the workforce is the inaccessibility of affordable childcare. My colleagues and I will be working on addressing this issue by providing childcare provider grants, and working on waitlist reduction.

We have an opportunity to make real investments in the infrastructure of our state. I have bills to address the traffic issues at Lake Elmo Ave and HWY 36, and another to fund the restoration of our crumbling Historic Courthouse.

Keeping an eye on the future of Minnesota, I have a bill that would assist Oak Park Heights in adapting to changes that will need to happen when the King Plant closes in the future. I'm confident that we can make these investments and more.

COVID-19 Update

Our state recently passed the grim mark of 10,000 Covid-19 deaths. With hospital admissions rising and many reaching capacity, others often with non-Covid related issues such as car accidents or strokes, are forced to wait for the medical care they desperately need and deserve.

As the Omicron variant is spreading, it is so important that every person do what they can to mitigate the spread of this virus. If you have yet to get your vaccine or booster shot, please sign up. The vaccine is free, safe, and effective in reducing serious cases of Covid-19 and hospitalization. We all have a responsibility to keep our fellow Minnesotans safe.

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas on how to make our community and state a better place to live, work, and raise a family, please reach out to me. You can contact me through email (rep.shelly.christensen@house.mn) or phone (651-296-4244). I appreciate hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Representative Shelly Christensen
