Legislative Update - March 1, 2022

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

Dear neighbors,

Another busy week at the Capitol is beginning. My colleagues and I are working hard on legislation that will improve the lives of Minnesotans. As always, we welcome your feedback!

Supporting Frontline Workers

Frontline workers have put their own health and safety on the line to treat COVID patients, teach our kids, respond to emergencies, provide child care, process and cook our food, keep buildings clean, and so much more throughout the pandemic. They deserve to be compensated for their sacrifices and hard work.

I was proud to vote for HF 2900, a bill that provides bonus pay for these dedicated Minnesotans. This legislation, which the House passed on Thursday, would deliver bonus checks of up to $1,500 to more than 667,000 frontline workers.

Protecting Minnesotans from Toxic Chemicals

As I mentioned in my last email, I’m working on three bills that would protect Minnesotans from PFAS. HF 2906, HF 2907, and HF 2952 would ban the use of these “forever chemicals” in cosmetics, cookware, and ski wax. My bills have received significant media coverage since they advanced from their latest committee hearing with bipartisan support. You can read recent coverage from the Star Tribune, WCCO, and Patch.

Appearing on Your Legislators

I had a chance to appear on Your Legislators last week. On this weekly program, produced by Pioneer PBS, four lawmakers come together to discuss important issues and answer questions submitted by viewers. You can watch the episode I was on here. I appreciated the opportunity to share what we’re working on with Minnesotans!

Celebrating Women’s History Month

It's the first day of Women’s History Month! Today, I’m thinking of the incredible women who came before me and the many contributions they’ve made. I’m especially grateful for all of the women who’ve fought for equality and the Minnesotans who continue this work today. Thanks to their efforts, I’m part of the largest and most diverse group of women to ever serve in the Minnesota Legislature! With the women who paved the way for us in mind, I’ll keep working hard to make our state a better place for the women and girls who will come after us.
