Water Gremlin Update - August 20, 2019

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Dear neighbors,

Last week, I shared the latest news about contamination at the Water Gremlin manufacturing plant. After recent tests detected TCE, DCE, and lead at the site, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) asked Water Gremlin to voluntarily shut down their coating operations until it was proven that further exposures could be prevented.

Water Gremlin has since refused to comply with their request. I urged the MPCA to take immediate alternative action to protect the health of our community. I’ll continue to provide updates as I receive more information about what steps will be taken next.

The MPCA is hosting a public informational meeting to update residents on these developments and what the agency is doing to address them. It will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at Central Middle School. The meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m., and MPCA staff will be available to answer questions until 9 p.m.

When: Tuesday, August 27 from 7:15 – 9 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.)
Where: Central Middle School, 4857 Bloom Avenue, White Bear Lake, MN 55110

If you’re unable to attend, you can still discuss questions and concerns with MPCA staff. Please don’t hesitate to call 651-757-2998 or email water.gremlin.mpca@state.mn.us.

Sincerely,

Ami Wazlawik
State Representative
