RELEASE: Heinrich Gives Power Back to People

Friday, March 18, 2022

St. Paul, MN – Representative John Heinrich is leading the way in ensuring the Governor must secure legislative approval before extending peacetime emergency orders. Heinrich believes the government works for the people and they should get to decide if the state should shut down. He has authored legislation that would require the legislature to approve any emergency declaration extension.

“Covid became an excuse for the government to fully control the citizens. After a while, it became apparent that state of emergencies and mandates were only convenient excuses to keep people reliant on the government,” Heinrich said. “We the people have the right to determine if a long-term state of emergency is necessary. Constituents have the right to see how their elected representatives vote on these very important decisions. ”

As part of HF4189, officially titled the “Never Again Bill,” the legislation would not allow the governor to suspend a person’s business license for failure to comply with state emergency orders. The legislation adds Bioterrorism and Public Health Emergencies to the emergency order statutes. This legislation coincides with two Heinrich-authored bills: HF 3025 and HF 3011. Both of these bills require the governor to receive legislative approval before extending peacetime state of emergencies.
