St. Paul, MN – Representative John Heinrich (R-Anoka) believes voters should have to prove they are who they say they are.
“Voting is a fundamental American right. An ID makes the voting process safe and secure. Voter fraud could be prevented if we made sure everyone at the ballot box was indeed who they said they were,” Heinrich said.
House File 3689 would require some form of photo ID for an individual to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a license or a voter identification card, that would include an individual’s name, address and signature.
Day-of voter registration could still be obtained with a license, state identification card, voter identification card, passport or other forms of ID.
The bill is currently in the State Government Finance and Elections Committee for review.
