RELEASE: Heinrich File Legislation Ending Overreach

Thursday, February 24, 2022

St. Paul, MN – Representative John Heinrich (R-Anoka) submitted his bill, HF3025 requiring legislative approval for the governor to extend a peacetime state of emergency.

“The past two years have been an example of overreach by our Governor. Without a system of checks and balances, one man has been able to issue emergency order after order with no voice from the people. This must end,” Heinrich said.

HF3025 would require that any peacetime emergency orders could not be extended for more than 30 days without approval of a majority vote of each house of the legislature. The bill would not limit the governor’s authority to act when a situation calls for timely action.

The bill currently is in the State Government Finance and Elections Committee for review. More information on the bill can be found here.
