RELEASE: Heinrich Supports Patient Care, Rights

Wednesday, March 9, 2022

St. Paul – Representative John Heinrich (R-Anoka) is making sure patients have access to the appropriate and compassionate care they are entitled to. As part of HF 4055, patients will be allowed at minimum, one support person while receiving care.

The “No Patient Left Alone” Act would mean that any patient of a health care facility, nursing home, assisted living facility or residential care home, would be allowed an individual necessary to provide compassionate care to the patient or resident.

“The response to Covid-19 caused so many people to die alone without their family by their side, even if that was their last request. We can never deny people the right to die with dignity, or receive support when they need it the most,” Heinrich said. “Patient care will no longer be limited to medicine and IVs, it will now include compassion.”

This legislation would not require a patient to consent to a ‘do not resuscitate’ or similar order as part of the condition to receive a visit from a support person.
