Rep. Kristin Bahner Votes to Pass HF1, the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act

Saint Paul, Minn. – Last night, the Minnesota State House of Representatives passed HF1, the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act, after a floor debate and a final vote of 69-65. The PRO Act establishes the fundamental right of Minnesotans to make individual decisions about reproductive care and prevents politicians from interfering with a person’s fundamental right to make their own reproductive care decisions.

State Representative Kristin Bahner (DFL – Maple Grove) is a co-author of the legislation and voted for its passage.

“I co-authored the PRO Act because I believe reproductive care decisions should remain between patients, families, and their physician—not politicians,” Rep. Bahner said. “I respect that people are passionate on this subject and understand pregnancy is complicated. The PRO Act puts the freedom of reproductive medical decisions in the hands of the individual.  It solidifies the right of the individual to make these life-altering decisions in consultation with family and a trusted physician in a way that aligns with their own personal and deeply held beliefs. I respect women and families to have the freedom to do what is best and I was proud to vote in support of the PRO Act.”

Video of the debate and vote can be found on the House Public Information page.

The legislation now awaits action by the Minnesota State Senate, which heard the counterpart bill, SF1, in the Health and Human Services Committee last week.
