Legislative Update- March 3, 2020

Tuesday, March 3, 2020
Rep. Bahner

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are having a good week. Here’s an update from St. Paul:

Minnesota House Passes Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act

Last week we advanced the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act off the House Floor. As a passionate champion and sister to a Type-1 Diabetic, I’m proud to say it passed with my firm support. The legislation would ensure Minnesotans with diabetes have access to affordable insulin on an emergency basis and in the long-term. Alec’s Bill is informed by the input from advocates and diabetics across the state over the summer and fall, as well as bipartisan negotiations. I’m hopeful the bill will pass in the Senate because Minnesotans are counting on us; lives are at stake.

Protecting your Data in the Primary

The Minnesota House recently passed legislation that does three critical things to secure privacy when voting in the Presidential Primary:

  • It limits who has access to the data.
  • It sets guardrails on how the data can be used and with whom it can be shared.
  • It provides an opt out to choose not to share your data. This is exceptionally important for those working in sensitive positions, like your pastor, judges, teachers, non-partisan leaders and staff that must remain neutral to do their job.

I recently wrote an editorial that was published and goes into greater detail. If you’re interested, you can find it online here.

I hope the Senate will join us in getting this legislation to the Governor’s desk.

Wayzata Educators Visit the Capitol

I recently had the opportunity to meet with educators from Wayzata Public Schools and learn about their hard work on behalf of our students and families. Although I represent Maple Grove and Osseo, you may be interested to know I also represent a part of the Wayzata school district. Thank you for visiting and all you do for our state!
