Legislative Update-2020 Census & Presidential Primary

Tuesday, January 14, 2020

Rep. Bahner

Dear Neighbors,

Happy New Year! 2020 has some new and exciting opportunities for Minnesotans- especially, the U.S. Census and Presidential Nomination Primary. I’ve included details on how you can participate below.

2020 Census: Be Counted!

The 2020 Census counts every person living in the 50 states, District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to deliver daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other vital resources based on census data. Presidential Primary

As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, Minnesotans will be able to vote in a presidential nominating primary this year. No matter what your party affiliation is, it's important to cast your vote. Absentee balloting for the 2020 Minnesota presidential nominating primary begins this Friday, January 17th. You can order an absentee ballot or update your voter registration here. Primary Day in Minnesota is March 3, 2020. To learn more, visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office’s website here.

Maple Grove’s Legislative Priorities

Maple Grove City Council recently set their legislative agenda for the new year. I am excited to partner with them to improve our community as the chief author of many infrastructure improvement initiatives, including completion of the 610 Highway project and the much-needed Maple Grove Range expansion. It has been a pleasure to work with city staff and City Council members to make these goals a reality. I look forward to a productive 2020!
