Release: Rep. Kelly Morrison Appointed to the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR)

Wednesday, January 19, 2022

St. Paul, MN- Rep. Kelly Morrison (DFL-Deephaven), a member of the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee, has been appointed to the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) for the 2021-2022 biennium.

“I am very honored to join the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources,” said Rep. Morrison. “Minnesotans deserve a healthy, thriving state and environment, and I’m looking forward to partnering with the public in this new role so we can enact strategies that protect our state’s precious natural resources.”

The LCCMR is made up of 17 bipartisan commissioners – five senators, five state representatives, five citizens appointed by the governor, one citizen appointed by the Senate, and one citizen appointed by the House. The commission makes funding recommendations to the legislature for special environment and natural resource projects, primarily from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF), which is largely funded by proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery. The LCCMR developed from a program initiated in 1963. Since 1963, approximately $1.0 billion has been appropriated to more than 2,300 projects recommended to the legislature by the commission to protect and enhance Minnesota's environment and natural resources.

In 1988, 77% of Minnesota voters approved a constitutional amendment establishing the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF)- a constitutionally dedicated fund that includes a combination of Minnesota State Lottery proceeds and investment income.

Representative Morrison has championed successful legislation that protects pollinators, addresses aquatic invasive species, and continues to focus on measures to protect and enhance the quality of air, water, and land across the state of Minnesota.

Representative Kelly Morrison represents House District 33B, which includes the cities of Deephaven, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Minnetonka Beach, Mound, Chanhassen, Excelsior, Spring Park, and Greenwood. She is currently serving as an Assistant Majority Leader in the Minnesota House. Rep. Morrison encourages her constituents to share input and ideas with her at the Capitol anytime at 651-296-4315 or at rep.kelly.morrison@house.mn.
