Legislative Update- November 25, 2019

Rep. Morrison

Dear Neighbors,

I hope this finds you well. It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner. If you are getting ready to start holiday shopping, I hope you’ll join me in supporting our small businesses by participating in Shop Small Saturday. The Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday serves as an opportunity to lift up local artisans, entrepreneurs, and restaurateurs. Our small businesses are a cornerstone of what makes our community unique and special. They help grow our local economy, enrich commerce and community relationships, and attract new talent.

I’d like to extend a thank you to the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce for a fun and informative State of the Cities event recently. I appreciated all the city officials, fire and law enforcement who came out to give updates and answer questions.

Anti-Vaping Efforts

Vaping-related injuries are being reported in Minnesota and across the nation, but many young people remain unaware of the health risks associated with e-cigarettes. Nicotine is the chief substance in both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes, and it’s extremely addictive, so it’s imperative we take bold steps now to prevent permanent damage.

At the end of October, my House colleagues and I announced a package of tobacco prevention proposals to help address this growing epidemic. You can read the MinnPost opinion piece I authored with my colleague Representative Alice Mann, who is also a practicing physician.

Last Friday, I joined Representative Edelson, Senator Nelson, and Senator Anderson for a visit to Minnetonka High School to learn more about preventative measures the school is taking to combat youth vaping. Learn more here.
