Community Listening Session in Shorewood
Due to growing public pressure, the Minnesota Senate rolled out an insulin proposal that strives to connect Minnesotans with insurance options for affordable insulin; however, it leaves out any emergency access to insulin. Since then, Speaker Hortman has sent a letter to Governor Walz, urging him to appoint an Emergency Access to Insulin Work Group of House and Senate members to resolve differences within each body’s insulin proposal.
At the end of September, the House Health and Human Services Finance Division held an informational hearing to discuss the differences between the House and Senate’s proposals, recap what we learned from the statewide community conversations, and how we can put forward solutions to address this issue that’s impacting far too many Minnesotans. I remain committed to enacting a strong, lifesaving measure to prevent more tragedy. We can’t afford to wait any longer.
Cracking Down on ‘Robo-Calls’
Yesterday, my colleague Rep. Stephenson announced plans to get tough on invasive ‘robo-calls’ that we all have experienced far too frequently. His legislation would charge predators with a felony whenever identify theft or a swindle is a result of a robo-call. The bill also gives legal tools to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, the Attorney General, and consumers themselves to take action when they receive these would-be illegal calls. I look forward to learning more details when the bill is introduced at the start of the 2020 session in February.
