Dear Granite City Neighbors,

The 2024 legislative session is right around the corner, and before I head back to St. Paul, I want to hear from you in St. Cloud! On Tuesday, February 6, I’m holding another “Donuts with Dan” open office hours - where we can cover the issues you care about while enjoying some donuts!

Office hours will be from 4-6pm at the Great River Regional Library, Room 268. I want to make sure I give every person and issue some well-deserved time, so please RSVP for a time and topic.

Donuts with Dan

Please RSVP to my Legislative Assistant, Chris, at christopher.olendorf@house.mn.gov. If you can put “Donuts with Dan” in the subject line, just let Chris know what you’d like to discuss and he’ll work with you to find a time for us to sit down and chat! If February 6 doesn’t work for you, reach out anyways! I want to hear from you, especially as I prepare for this year’s session.

I hope to see you next week!

From the Capitol

Be sure to tune in to WJON every Wednesday at 10:40am, when I’ll join Kelly Cordes to discuss the latest legislative news! Even though we’re not in session yet, there’s still plenty going on - last week I provided an update on Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan's recent infrastructure visit to St. Cloud, legislative & community efforts to support mental health, and last weekend’s “Bold & Bright” festival.

You can catch our conversation below.

Supporting Higher Education

Who says you can’t go home?! Last week I spent a day touring my old stomping grounds at my alma mater, the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University.

I met with President Brian Bruess for an update on the budget and enrollment trends. I met with my old football coach, Gary Fasching, for a discussion on student mental health. I had lunch with CSB Senate President Clair Moonen, SJU Senate President Wes Kirchner, and met with students from the McCarthy Center and College Democrats.

College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University

As the Vice Chair of the House Higher Education committee, I’m committed to making sure we support students at Minnesota’s private colleges and Universities. Our future workforce depends on it!

It was a wonderful day and I am truly blessed to be a member of the Bennie Johnnie family.

Meeting with East Side Business Owners

Exciting things happening in East St. Cloud! I recently met with east side business owners and residents who are teaming up to revitalize the newly rebranded “East End”.

I received enthusiastic support for our $100M downtown St. Cloud bonding proposal, which includes public safety, housing, infrastructure and beautification upgrades for the East End.

Thanks to St. Cloud City Councilwoman Karen Larson for hosting!

Thanks as always for reading! As I get ready for the 2024 legislative session, I’m hoping you’ll stay in touch. I enjoy reading all the replies I receive from these emails, so let me know if you have any questions or feedback about the things mentioned in this email or anything else, and how I can be of service to you.

Sincerely,
