Dear Granite City Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone that showed up for our Town Hall on Lowering the Cost of Housing! We had great turnout and conversations on this important issue.

We heard from realtors, lenders, builders, communities of color, mobile park residents, and citizens who are feeling the pinch of rising costs. I really appreciate the feedback on what we accomplished this year and what we should work toward for the 2024 legislative session.

Special thanks to special guests Housing Chair Mike Howard, St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis, and Hudda Ibrahim of Filsan Talent Partners for their contributions and presentations at our town hall.

Regardless of whether you were able to join us, always feel free to reach out with any questions you may have - and you can also access this helpful one-pager we handed out on some St. Cloud-specific housing accomplishments and resources.

Governor Walz comes to St. Cloud

Just as I welcomed my colleagues on the House Capital Investment Committee and MMB Commissioner Campbell to St. Cloud this year to tour sites for proposed state investment, this week we had our latest and greatest visitor yet - Governor Tim Walz!

There are several local projects where I’m fighting for state investment, and this week I showed off the importance of investing in St. Cloud’s wastewater treatment plant to Governor Walz. You can read more about his visit via the Star Tribune.

Name A New Snowplow!

One of my favorite fun traditions is now back - the contest for naming the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s new snowplows! Do you have a name worthy of joining past winners like Clearopathra, Sleetwood Mac, and Blader Tot Hotdish?

Submit your creative ideas for the “Name a Snowplow” contest by Dec. 15!

Apollo High School with Secretary Simon

As a high school football coach, I know our high school students are engaged and active in our community. That’s why I worked to pass to a new law making 16- and 17-year-olds eligible to pre-register to vote in Minnesota. Today I joined Secretary of State Steve Simon and Senator Aric Putnam to promote this new law and speak with students at Apollo High School. The future is bright with these soon-to-be-voters!

With this new law, Minnesota has joined 15 other states - led by Democrats and Republicans - in getting our teenagers engaged early. We take voting seriously in Minnesota, as shown by our nation-leading turnout, and I’m proud to report those values are alive and well in the next generation.

A New State Seal, Finalists for the Flag

Minnesota is one step closer to creating the final design for our updated state flag. A nonpartisan commission went through a lengthy and thorough process to narrow it down to six flag designs:

This week, a seal design was decided upon. There will still be minor tweaks to colors and placement, but I’m excited to see what the final result is in January. What is your favorite design?
