Rep. Wolgamott’s legislation eliminating the minimum markup for gasoline advances through committee

Monday, February 20, 2023

St. Paul, MN - Today, the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee heard testimony on House File 1726, authored by Rep. Dan Wolgamott (DFL - St. Cloud), which would eliminate the minimum markup requirement for the sale of gasoline. The bill advanced through committee and was placed on the general register.

“Minnesota’s consumer laws should protect consumers, not harm them,” said Rep. Wolgamott. “By repealing Minnesota’s minimum markup law, we can help facilitate lower gas prices while still maintaining protections against predatory pricing that harms competition.”

Minnesota’s minimum markup is currently the lesser of 8 cents or 6%. The majority of US states do not have minimum markup laws for gas. More information can be found on the committee’s webpage. Video of today’s hearing can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel
