Legislative Update - The 2023 Legislative Session

Friday, January 6, 2023
Rep. Wolgamott

Dear Granite City Neighbors,

The snow couldn’t slow me down as I hit the ground running in the Minnesota House this week. Thank you for the incredible honor of sending me back to St. Paul to work for you. I promise to bring the voices of our community to the forefront of discussions at the legislature, and I look forward to working with our neighbors to deliver a better Minnesota.

This session, I’m delighted to share I’ve been appointed Speaker Pro Tempore. In the absence of the Speaker, the Speaker Pro Tempore takes on the duties of managing the House Floor and ruling on legislative debate. This is a new role for me, but I am prepared to execute the duties of presiding officer, with fairness to my 133 colleagues, in service to the 5.7 million Minnesotans we represent.

Pro Tempore

In addition to this leadership role, I will also serve as Vice Chair of the House Higher Education committee, along with my place on the House’s Labor and Industry, Rules and Administration, and Capital Investment committees. These are all areas where I can work tenaciously on your behalf, and I look forward to keeping you in the loop on the bills we advance.

Priorities to Move Minnesota Forward

Minnesotans made their voices loud and clear last November, and the results maintained the DFL majority in the Minnesota House, reinstated Governor Walz, and created a new 1-vote DFL majority in the Minnesota Senate.

I’m incredibly proud of the bipartisan accomplishments I was able to secure in my past sessions of divided government, and reaching across the aisle to build consensus will always be a part of the way I conduct myself in the Legislature. It’s a new session, with new members, and new leaders, and I look forward to working with all of my colleagues in order to deliver for St. Cloud and our state.

This new DFL “trifecta” is one that’s ready to get to work for Minnesotans, and in a united effort, our House and Senate leaders unveiled our priorities to move Minnesota forward:

DFL Priorities

This is just a small preview of the work we’ll be taking on, and I encourage you to reach out to my office with ideas of what you think we should focus on this year. You can watch House and Senate leadership discuss our shared priorities here.

Stay Connected This Session

Things are already moving fast at the Minnesota Legislature, and I want to make sure you have the tools and resources available to you to stay in the loop. For broader legislative information, you can access the Minnesota House of Representatives Public Information Services for nonpartisan recaps of high-profile bills, committee hearings, and floor sessions with their Session Daily publication.

To touch base on my work, my door is open! With our return to in-person work this session, I’m happy to say that’s more literal than we’ve been able to be in the previous sessions during the height of COVID. If you’re making the trip to the State Capitol, or if you have any questions or comments on my legislative work, please feel free to reach out at rep.dan.wolgamott@house.mn.gov or 651-296-6612. Alayna, my new legislative assistant, and I will be happy to help you out!

You can “like” and follow my official Facebook page to stay up to date, and subscribe to these email updates here. I look forward to a new legislative session fighting for St. Cloud!

Sincerely,
