Rep. Wolgamott leads Legislators in calling on Governor Walz to implement Workers’ Compensation Benefits for Public Safety, Health Care

Monday, March 30, 2020

St. Paul, MN - Following last week’s exclusion of legislation providing workers’ compensation benefits to public safety and health care professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic, State Representative Dan Wolgamott (DFL - St. Cloud) lead a bipartisan coalition of legislators in sending a letter to Governor Walz, asking for an Executive Order to implement the benefits.

“We need to protect the Minnesotans who are risking their physical and financial wellbeing for the safety of our state,” said Rep. Wolgamott. “I’m asking Governor Walz to use the emergency powers granted to him by the peacetime state of emergency to deliver these resources to the families that are serving on the front lines of this COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible.”

Rep. Wolgamott authored HF 4515, which would authorize workers’ compensation benefits for public safety and health care professionals who contract COVID-19. The legislation was not included in the most recent bill passed by the Minnesota Legislature last Thursday as it did not have the expressed agreement of Republican leadership. The letter sent by Rep. Wolgamott and signed by a bipartisan group of 59 legislators can be found here.
