MUNSON VOTES TO SUPPORT ADULT DAY SERVICES

Wednesday, August 12, 2020

St. Paul – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed HF 1. The bill provides funding to adult day service providers across Minnesota. Rep. Jeremy Munson (R-Lake Crystal) voted in favor of the bill.

“Until now, providers of adult day services have been left without a lifeboat for too long during this pandemic,” said Rep. Munson. “Governor Walz had the opportunity to apply for a waiver to put federal funds toward supporting our adult day service providers. Thirty-five other states applied and received this waiver. However, Governor Walz did not even apply. As a result, Potential Unlimited & LeSueur County Developmental Services in Waterville permanently closed its doors July 15 due the financial strain of the shut down.”

Adult day service providers across the state have been forced to shut down in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This bill was essential for people of Minnesota with disabilities, and I am glad we passed it,” said Rep. Munson. “Adult day service providers give critical job training and support to individuals to increase their independence in the community. As such, we need to ensure that these providers can continue their terrific work. HF 1 takes decisive action on this front.”

HF 1 passed the Minnesota House of Representatives by a margin of 129-1. Additionally, the bill passed in the Minnesota Senate by a vote of 67-0.

Rep. Munson concluded, “The day programs provided by these organizations help support individuals and families all over our state. The passage of this bill will help ensure that people with disabilities maintain a good quality of life.”
