Legislative Update from Rep. Anne Neu

Friday, July 20, 2018

Dear Friends,

As we now near the end of July, I hope you and your family are having a great summer and have had the chance to enjoy some of your favorite summer activities. I have really enjoyed traveling around our district to attend events and meet and interact with members of our community. Being out and about in the community always reminds me of the countless reasons why Chisago County is such a great place to call home!

New Laws

Despite the governor’s vetoes at the end of this year’s legislative session, a number of new laws that passed during the 2018 session took effect on July 1. Click here for more information on some of these new laws. Likewise, a handful of other new laws are set to take effect on August 1. For information on these new laws, click here.

I am especially proud that among these new laws is the bill I authored to close loopholes surrounding snowmobile/ATV use for individuals convicted of DWIs. I am pleased that this will become law on August 1, as this is an important fix that I believe can protect innocent lives and prevent future tragedies. In addition, I am looking forward to the seeing the initial work required to move forward with improving the safety and access of Highway 8, which is the result of a provision I authored in this year’s bonding bill.

Please Contact Me

Finally, thank you to all of you that have called, emailed or visited me during the legislative session and summer. Only when I hear our community’s varying views on legislative issues am I able to best represent our community in the legislature. Again, thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your ideas with me.

Tomorrow marks the start of a moratorium on legislative email updates. Because of a prohibition in state law, I won’t be sending any more updates until November. In the meantime, I would like to encourage you to directly contact me if you have any questions or concerns or if there’s any way I can assist you or your family.

Have a great summer and fall.

Sincerely,

Anne
