RELEASE: Rep. Sandstede statement on special session

Monday, July 13, 2020

SAINT PAUL – Today at noon, the Minnesota Legislature convened in special session. The agenda will include solutions to address the COVID-19 pandemic, police accountability reforms, a Jobs and Local Projects package, and more.

Rep. Julie Sandstede (DFL – Hibbing) issued the following statement:

“There’s plenty of work for us to do during this special session. I’m confident we will continue to make progress toward a strong Jobs and Local Projects bill to invest in critical infrastructure improvements. This legislation would also aid in our economic recovery by creating good-paying construction jobs. Folks working in the mining industry are facing a particularly uncertain future, and I’ll keep advocating for additional unemployment benefits if they are needed to weather the economic storm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Criminal justice reform also remains a priority, and we need to keep working toward a consensus that enhances accountability while ensuring law enforcement is able to carry out their public safety mission throughout our communities. Working together, we can do positive work to ensure our state can overcome our current challenges and emerge even stronger.”
